Heart Update

Chase had a checkup with the awesome Dr. Larry Weinhaus yesterday & all is well :-)

He did pretty good during his echo, they played a 1980's kids video about people being different, yet the same. . . cute songs- where was this during my 900 pg appointments with them?

Dr. Weinhaus thinks he's doing great! He does still have the leaky valve (sounds like plumbing) which will ultimately push up the second heart surgery, but we're doing ok for now. They did up his meds a little bit, but that's because he got BIGGER :-)

That was the fun part of the appointment. Chase is now 14lbs 2oz! That's up 1lb and 4oz in a month and a half. Guess he likes the solid foods. He is also 26inches long- which means we're outta 0-3 month clothes and actually fitting 6 months- some 9 month stuff. Pretty sweet. It was a nice appointment for sure.

The First Father's Day

Chase got to spend some quality time with his dad on Sunday, and his Grandpa Klett, and his Great-Grandpa! Even Uncle Chris got some Chase quality time- but he was a little tired :-)
PS- Mom got some quality time too, 6 whole uninterrupted hours! Caught up on my DVR!

And now we're hiking!

This past weekend, to celebrate Father's Day, we surprised Grandpa Lehman with a picnic and hike by Indian Lake.

It was perfect weather and everyone had a good time- except Chase :-) I think it was a combination of the new carrier (don't we look sporty?) and it was naptime. By the end of the hike he was sleeping comfortably, but the first half he pretty much screamed at nature.

Thank you to M & A for letting us borrow the carrier, one more trip and we may have to invest in our own!

We've got a swimmer!

My mom's been pushing the swim lessons on me since the day Chase turned 6 months. I took lessons when I was that age, most babies do. She reminds me about them on a weekly basis. I reminded her that I used TEACH lessons when I was a lifeguard and her response? "But don't you want a proffessional?" Nice- guess I was an amateur.

Friday Chase and I took our first dip in my condo's pool. Which is heated, although prolly not the best idea since he was sick. But the sun made him sneeze a ton & it got the snot out better than the sucker thingy. (Sorry for the TMI)

Anyhoo- Chase was not opposed to the swimming. He didn't cry, but he also wasn't doing laps or anything. He kept dipping his hands in the water and sucking on his fingers. He did some splashes and did not like to float on his back. We're going to work on that next week. For his first time, I will call it a success.

And yes, he was wearing a hat, long sleeved swim shirt, board shorts that look like pants on him, AND SPF 50. I prefer that he stays the palest child in the world :-)

Sorry Grandpa, I've got to tell the story

So this past week Chase has been sick with a cold. Not a huge deal, but it's his first cold ever & not bad for a 7 month old.
Anyways, he got the sneezes, then the snot, now a cough. But Thursday when he woke up his hands were on fire- so I knew that meant a fever, so I took his temp- 99 degrees.

And then I FREAKED THE F OUT. I called his pediatrician, yes for a 99 degree temp, who's nurse nicely told me that it was a low grade fever- if one at all bc the ear therms aren't that accurate. She calmly told me to give him Tylenol if I thought he needed it, but that it was nothing to worry about.

Apparently I can handle multiple surgeries and seeing the inside of his chest, but a tiny fever knocks me out cold.

I will say I handled it better than my dad- who called bc Chase "couldn't keep anything down" (translation- he spit up after a bottle) and his temp was 99 degrees "just by placing it on his skin" (wonder if he thinks you have to impale the baby with it for an accurate temperature?) Oh and another wise fact from Grandpa- "low grade fever means his temp is BELOW 98.6"

I tell ya- good times
